Where it all began
There's nothing better than catching up with mates over a few drinks. And it tastes even better after you've put in the hard yards. That's exactly how Nectar came to be.
Having achieved all he set out to in the world of brewing and building an award-winning brand, Michael ‘Govs’ McGovern decided it was time to leave his hops at the door and embark on a new venture - distilling.
Being a keen spirit drinker, the plan was to make the best damn vodka in the world. And that meant it had to be good enough to drink straight. But it wouldn't just be any vodka, he made it his mission to craft a vodka that was smoother, cleaner and fresher than any other vodka he had tried. And what better way to do that than by sourcing elements straight from the earth?
Enter the idea to infuse his creation with real fruit.
While Govs was hard at work fine-tuning his new craft, into his life walked two new friends and soon-to-be business partners.
It was by pure chance that Govs crossed paths with AFL Hall Of Fame Athlete Barry Hall and wife and media personality, Lauren Brant. As motivated entrepreneurs who enjoy a balanced lifestyle, Barry and Lauren were immediately intrigued by the idea of a cleaner vodka that aligned with their 80/20 mantra. Work hard 80% of the time, while also making time to have fun.
But what really sealed the deal was the big taste test - one sip and the couple were hooked. It didn't take long before taste tests turned to tipsy chats, and the trio uncovered a deep connection in health and wellbeing, the art of handcrafting, and a love of the earth. A solid foundation that would pave the way forward.
With Barry and Lauren's big tick of approval, Govs was confident that what they had created was good. Really good. Good enough that they had to share it with the world.
And from there, the most unlikely of partnerships was born.
And so too was Nectar.
While the trio come from different backgrounds, their common ground lies in the 80/20 rule.
It's the idea that you devote 80% of your efforts toward smashing goals and the other 20% to enjoying the good times along the way.
